Tango Marathon
Great show of Argentine tango on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June at the cruise terminal on the Sporgente Centrale pier of Catania port.
The “Tango Marathon” event, organized by the Caminito Tango cultural association in collaboration with Catania Cruise Port, supported by the Port Network Authority of Eastern Sicily Sea and sponsored by Catania Municipality, will take place starting at 17:00 Saturday, June 15 and is open to anyone who wants to attend to these great dance evenings.
The event was presented this morning during a press conference held in the Sala Giunta of Palazzo degli Elefanti in Catania, in the presence of Catania Mayor, Dr. Salvo Pogliese, and representatives of the Port Network Authority of Eastern Sicily Sea, Catania Cruise Port and the cultural association Caminito Tango.
Argentine tango, recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO, is now a beloved and widespread dance, capable of attracting tourists and onlookers who, together with the aficionados dancers, rush to the events. This capacity for social aggregation and international fame led Catania Cruise Port to choose this recreational discipline to make the inhabitants of Catania aware of the issues related to the cruise sector and its importance for the city. The event intends to promote the concept of port as an integral and essential part of the territory, with the hope of making it more perceptible as a resource by every member of the local community, also for the purposes of common development.
The second day of the event will also be enriched by the presence of the 1,500 cruise passengers – most of them of German nationality – of the ship Mein Schiff Herz, which will berth at a quay adjacent to the event area until 7.00 pm.
