The allure of Mount Etna in eruption is an unmissable experience

Mount Etna is currently putting on a truly extraordinary natural spectacle. Europe’s most active volcano has been the focus of continuous eruptive activity for the past week, with fountains of lava, explosions, lava flows and striking ash clouds transforming the landscape.

According to the INGV’s Etna Observatory, such prolonged activity is a particularly rare phenomenon: one would have to go back to the late 1970s to find anything similar.

Currently, the spectacle is taking place across various areas of the summit. At the Voragine, lava fountains and ash emissions are ongoing, while in the Valle del Bove, lava flows are creating a vast lava field and a unique landscape.
